So you’re headed off to the spa and you’re super excited about your day of relaxation. Then it hits you, this is your first time going to a spa. You have no idea what the proper protocol is, do you undress, do you tip, what are the steps that need to be taken? Here are some helpful tips to ensure you have a wonderful, stress free experience.
To do, or not to do.
When going to the spa it is your time to yourself. This is a time for you to step away from the protocols of daily life and routine. If you have children please make arrangements for them to be watched. A spa is not the place to stress about your children’s behavior while you are in your appointment. Turn your cell phones off and leave it in your purse.
Tipping, is it optional or completely mandatory.
Tipping is one of the most common questions across the board. Many are insecure about this subject since it isn’t widely talked about like tipping at a restaurant. While you are not forced to leave gratuity the principles are the same as in a restaraunt. 15-20% for good-great service. Gratuity is usually considered a private part of the experience most spas will ask you when checking out.
Talking and asking questions during services.
Another common question we hear, should I let my therapist know if it is to hard/soft? Yes, the answer is most certainly yes. A good therapist wants feedback on their services. As you start to build a relationship, asking questions and giving feedback allows you to build rapport and create a custom service. So let the therapist know if you prefer it quiet, if you like the massage a bit softer or even if you enjoy falling asleep. This is your service and your time.
How should I dress?
Another great question people often ask about, how should I dress? We recommend wearing comfortable, loose fitting clothing. It is not mandatory to remove all of your clothing. While you are covered throughout your service, if you are more comfortable in your undergarments we suggest wearing a strapless bathing suit top.
Remember, have fun and enjoy your self.
